Tomato Coloring Technology in Autumn and Winter
After entering the cold winter, tomatoes can't turn red because the temperature doesn't meet the requirement of producing lycopene. It is an effective measure to promote tomatoes to be put on the market by using coloring agents in advance before picking.
1. It is not advisable to rush red color too early. Generally, the effect of promoting red is best when the fruit is fully grown. If the fruit is still in the green maturity stage, it is not fully grown, and it is easy to appear the phenomenon of uneven coloring if it is eager to promote red.
2. The concentration of reagents should not be too high. Most tomatoes are promoted red with 40% ethephon, and every 50ml of ethephon is added with 4kg of water, which can be used after being mixed evenly. If the concentration of liquid medicine is too high, it will damage the leaves at the base of the plant, making the leaves yellow, and producing obvious symptoms of phytotoxicity.
3. The number of red fruits per plant should not be too much at a time. Generally, it is better to have 1-2 red fruits per plant. Because there are too many red fruits per plant at one time, it is easy to cause phytotoxicity when the drug dose is too large.
4. Liquid medicine should not contaminate leaves. If the liquid medicine contaminates the leaves, it will cause the leaves to turn yellow and even wither. The specific way to promote red is to dip the liquid medicine with a small sponge and smear it on the surface of the fruit. You can also wear cotton gloves, dip them in the liquid medicine, and smear liquid on the fruit surface.
