Tomato "Double Roots Double Vines" Pruning Method
The cultivation method of tomato with
double roots and tendrils is suitable for planting any variety with infinite growth type.
1. Cultivate strong seedlings for planting, and ensure that the main branches are deep and leafy. Choose a strong branch from the side branch under the first ear tidbits and erase all the others. The left side branch can be buried deep and rooted when it grows to more than 50cm.
Specific methods:
The mulch film was uncovered, and two inverted parabolic grooves with a length of 20cm, a width of 10cm and a depth of 3cm were dug in parallel between two tomatoes with a plant distance of 40cm. Gently press the side branches (50cm in length) of two tomatoes into the bottom of the ditch, with the top points of the side branches facing the other bracket (hanging rope), then water them, cover the soil after seeping underwater, gently pat them flat by hand, and cover them with plastic film. New roots will be generated in about half a month.
2. Management of "
double roots double vines".
The original old branches on the support rods (lifting ropes) are still
pruned by single-stem. After the first ear is ripe, pick the fruit, and
prune the old leaves and newly grown branches below one ear. When the new branches grow to a stage that needs a
support, they should be tied to the original growing branches in time. New branches are still carried out treatment of single-stem pruning.
In principle, the leaves of old branches are not dense, light-blocking, ventilation-influencing, and leaves are not picked. When the fruits are ripe, all the leaves are picked in time. And cut at the upper end of the old branch where the new branch grows about 15cm, and the old branch remains on the rack (the branch can be cut into stages and taken away by using a lifting rope).
At this time, the newly-born branches have changed to be the main ones, and 5 ears of fruit are picked. If deep composting is adopted and new
pruning methods are used, the number of ears left depends on soil fertility and tomato growth.
At the same time, the field management should be strengthened, and new and old roots should be topdressing with fertilizer, and foliar fertilization should keep up.
Double-root and double-vine cultivation generally grows and harvests for about one year. Tomato sales can catch up with the off-season and the peak season, which can save labor and increase production greatly.
