Ways to Prevent Tomatoes Splitting
During the fruit expansion period, tomatoes can often find some fruits on the first and second ears, which split in the navel, exposing seeds and losing commercial value. When tomatoes are cultivated in the shed, the temperature in the fruiting period should be controlled at 20-25℃ during the day and 13-18℃ at night. After the shed temperature is higher than 30℃, it is necessary to ventilate and cool down in time to avoid fruit cracking.
2. Control the amount of nitrogen fertilizer.
The basic fertilizer for tomatoes should be based on farmyard manure, supplemented by chemical fertilizer. The application amount of chemical fertilizer should be controlled at 5-8kg/mu, along with 40-50kg of calcium superphosphate (calcium superphosphate can prevent umbilical rot) and 30-35kg of potassium sulfate, which should be turned over twice after spreading, so that the fertilizer and soil can be fully mixed and fertilized in the whole layer. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is the main topdressing. If the plant does not grow vigorously, 3-5 kg urea can be topdressed per mu in the early growth stage.
3. Strengthen water management.
Before flowering, we should water it as soon as the surface soil dries out. During the fruit expansion period after flowering, we must keep the ground moist and prevent water accumulation in the field, so as to benefit high yield without cracking fruit.
4. Rational use of plant hormones.
When using flower and fruit protection hormone, the concentration of hormone should be reasonably prepared according to temperature. When the temperature is high, the concentration should be low; when the temperature is low, the concentration is appropriately increased. Pigments can be added to hormones to distinguish them. Each flower can only be splashed with hormones once, so as to prevent repeated splashing to reduce fruit cracking. If the cracked fruit is found, it should be removed in time, and then 1-2 spikes should be left upward.
